I'm a changed woman - not in appearance, not in attitude, not in beliefs, but in my last name. I got married on September 27th and now have to go through all the trouble of changing my last name. I thought all the work would be done once the wedding was finished, but now I have to run all over town and make a million phone calls to update everything that my name appears on. And, not to mention all the little fees I will have to pay to get everything reissued in my new name.
I am not really looking forward to it.
I don't mind taking my husband's (and that still sounds weird to say) last name - as long as I do not become Mrs. David Shane Guild - but I am going from a super easy last name (Mason) to a seemingly easy last name (Guild) that gets mispronounced and misspelled all the time! It's Guild, like build but with a G! I am just so spoiled that I have had a super easy first and last name all my life and have never had to spell it for anyone as I said it over the phone. But now I fear for the rest of my life I will be spelling my last name for everyone or getting checks made out to Jennifer Gould or Jennifer Gill! And, I also anticipate a few jokes along the way about my name being Jennifer Mason Guild. yeah, a Mason Guild - HA! It is kind of funny.
I am excited to finally be married and am looking forward to being a wife, I just wish that I could have gotten all the name change stuff out of the way before the wedding so that when we got back from the honeymoon I would be DONE! I understand why that can't happen, but wouldn't it just be so nice to come back from the honeymoon and not have anything to do? Yeah, right. There is always something to do when you are married!
